How Dating Is Affected By Height

Dating

The number obtained when the height of a male is divided by the height of a female, is called the sexual dimorphism ratio (SDR). When this number is greater than 1.0, the male is taller than the female. Since men tend to be 8 percent taller than women, the norm SDR would therefore be 1.08.

Pretty straight forward, eh? Studies that were performed about women and men’s dating preferences in terms of height have a lot to do with SDR.

Overall, men preferred an SDR of 1.09 (just about the norm), while women in general preferred an SDR of 1.14, far above the norm. In other words, women prefer men who are 14 percent taller than themselves. So, on average, that means that a woman who is 5 foot 4 inches would like better men just under 6 foot 1 inch.

But two different studies also factored in the heights of women. SDR is inversely proportional to height, according to the results. Tall women have a low SDR, while short women have an SDR that is high.

There were some very tall women who preferred men their own height or even shorter, while some shorter women’s preferred SDR rose to 1.19, meaning they wanted to meet men nineteen percent taller than themselves. So such a woman who is, say 5 foot 1 inch, would strongly prefer dating a man over 6 feet.

Fortunately that is not true of all 5-foot 1-inch women. A woman of that height joining a relationship site like FindTall.com would allow herself a far bigger dating pool of great men, if she has a low SDR.

Five foot one inch women who insist on being matched with men over 6 feet tall tend to have uneventful memberships and suffer from excessive “singleitis”. As for those who do not have such expectations, they wind up living happily ever after having met a wonderful man of any height.

Women over 5 foot eight inches tall or taller are generally willing to meet men their own height or even shorter. Such women tend to be flexible in terms of a man’s height because their experience of being tall dates back to their elementary school years.

The fact is that girls grow faster than boys, most having a height spurt around sixth grade, and they tend to remain taller right throughout middle school. The boys are usually taller by the time students finish high school though. Growth hormones called androgens are released in girls before they are released in boys during puberty.

A taller height can be especially traumatic for girls during that phase of puberty when no one wants to look different. As a result, many tall girls never develop that compulsion to only date very tall men.

A female who is 6-foot-3 once shared her personal experience in dating:

“There are many guys who seem frightened, but I view this as a filter to get rid of guys I don’t want to be with anyway. I also tend to avoid guys who have a fixation on tall women – all they want to do is get you in heels, check out your hand size, talk about your height all the time, etc. How creepy. In between are those good guys who make excellent boyfriends because they simply don’t see height. It turns out, all of my boyfriends have been shorter than me.”

The point of this article is that if you are single and want to meet some really nice, down-to-earth, non-arrogant people, the kind of men and women who make great husbands and wives and fathers and mothers, check out some of the short men and very tall women you may have been rejecting in your earlier dating searches.
